Baptist Health locations have paused all new elective surgeries amid an ongoing shortage of IV fluid nationwide.
Baptist Health officials said previously scheduled surgeries and emergency surgeries will not be impacted.
The shortage is a direct result of Hurricane Helene’s devastation. The company that supplies Baptist Health with IV fluid is located in Marion, North Carolina, an area still grappling with the devastation from Hurricane Helene.
Baptist Health officials said similar precautions were taken in 2017 after Hurricane Maria impacted medical suppliers in Puerto Rico.
Officials added they are monitoring the situation and are actively seeking alternative suppliers.
