As repairs to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge continue, two lanes will open Friday morning and two other lanes will close beginning that afternoon.
Repairs on the downstream side are expected to be completed Friday, October 11, at 9 a.m., which will reopen the right two lanes. Crews will then begin to work on repairing the upstream side, which will close the left two lanes from 5 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Christmas Eve.
The project began in July 2024 and follows a federally required inspection of older bridges built with T-1 steel. During 2022 inspections on the Kennedy Bridge, engineering firm Michael Baker International tested 696 welds and identified 44 locations that would need future repairs, but posed no immediate safety issues.
The project is expected to be completed by May 2025.
