The man at the center of numerous Troubleshooter investigations for faking a mental disability to get money from people was arrested in Louisville Friday for allegedly threatening officers.
Gary Thompson, 42, is charged with one count of disorderly conduct and two counts of terroristic threatening. He has been referred to as the “Bogus Beggar” in prior reporting.
According to an arrest citation, the incident happened at the corner of Preston Highway and Blue Lick Road.
Officers were responding for a report of two people fighting with knives. By the time they got there, the fight had broken up, but they saw Thompson, who had allegedly been involved in the fight, “screaming profanities” across the street.
The arrest citation said he was “alarming” patrons at a nearby McDonald’s. The original call to 911 came from a McDonald’s employee.
As police spoke with Thompson, they said he told them he was going to “F up” the responding officers. The arrest report says they tried to detain Thompson, because they thought he may still have a knife from the fight.
Police say Thompson began resisting, at one point telling officers that he could walk, but just “had a bad leg.”
Thompson then allegedly told them he would kill the officers when he got out of jail.
Thompson has previously pleaded guilty to falsely representing his mental condition in order to collect $106,000 in disability and Medicaid benefits over four years. He was sentenced to 42 months in prison.
