A Bullitt County woman has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder for killing her two young sons.
Tiffanie Lucas pleaded guilty to shooting and killing 9 year-old Jayden Howard and 6 year-old Maurice Baker Jr. inside their Bullitt County home in 2023.
Lucas appeared in court on Wednesday, October 23, waiving her right to a trial and instead pleading guilty.
Her defense team could still argue she was insane on the day of the deadly shootings. Lucas didn’t say much in court other than the short yes or no answers and saying she understood what her guilty plea meant.
She faces 20 to 50 years in prison for each murder charge, or a life sentence. Judge Rodney Burress will decide that. With the change in plea, Lucas waived her right to a trial and would not be eligible for probation.
The prosecutor in the case, Todd Bailey said he will be going after a lengthy sentence.
In a court filing a little over a month ago, Lucas intended to assert a defense of insanity. It is not clear what changed between then and a week ago when she decided to pleading guilty.
Prosecutor Bailey Taylor said getting a mental evaluation would have extended the process.
Lucas is scheduled to be sentenced on November 22, 2024.
