A Nelson County judge has ordered a separate trial for one of the three men charged in the disappearance and presumed murder of Crystal Rogers.
In a ruling issued Tuesday, November 5, Nelson Circuit Court Judge Charles Simms III ordered a separate trial for Steven Eugene Lawson. The trial is scheduled to begin on February 10, 2025.
Simms also granted a motion from the Commonwealth that the trials for Brooks Houck and Joseph L. Lawson be consolidated. Attorneys for Houck and Joseph Lawson have been ordered to appear in court on Thursday, December 5, to set a new trial date for their clients.
Houck is facing charges for the disappearance and presumed murder of Rogers. Steven and Joseph Lawson are each charged with complicity in murder and tampering with evidence.
Rogers, 35, was last seen alive on July 3, 2015. Her car was found abandoned two days later on the Bluegrass Parkway.
Because of pre-trial publicity, the cases will be tried in Warren County.
