Two South Central Kentucky men are facing decades in prison after a shooting left a Franklin man dead in 2020.
According to court documents, 40-year-old Freddy Manuel Gonzalez of Bowling Green and 26-year-old Xavior Caine Posey of Logan County were sentenced to 40 and 35 years in prison, respectively, for murder through the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. Both sentences will be followed by five years of supervised released.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says on December 29 and 30, 2020, Gonzalez and Posey communicated by cell phone to arrange for the murder-for-hire of 43-year-old Brian Russell of Franklin. Gonzalez provided Posey with a firearm for the murder.
On December 30, 2020, Posey shot the victim three times with that firearm at Russell’s home in Franklin and then returned to Bowling Green. Gonzalez later paid Posey for committing the murder, according to officials.
The ATF and the Franklin Police Department investigated the case. They were assisted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office, the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, the Warren County Drug Task Force, Kentucky State Police, the Russellville Police Department, the Bowling Green Police Department, and the Simpson County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Madison Sewell and David Weiser.
There is no parole in the federal system.
