A two vehicle collision claimed the life of one driver and injured the other driver Thursday (11/07) afternoon in the 15,000 block of Highway 86 near Smallwood Lane in Hardin County.
According to Hardin County Sheriff John Ward, a 2008 Ford Focus, driven by 20 year-old Andrew Miller of Leitchfield, was traveling east on Highway 86 when his passenger side wheels went off of the edge of the roadway in a slight curve causing him to overcorrect and cross into the westbound lane striking a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country mini van, driven by 56 year-old Lorrie Phelps of Leitchfield. The result of the impact threw Miller into the passenger seat. Miller was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner.
Phelps was taken by Hardin County EMS to Baptist Health Hardin for serious injuries.
The roadway was closed for about 3 hours while the Hardin County Sheriff Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleaned up the scene. Kentucky 86 Fire and Rescue, Custer, and McDaniels Fire Departments assisted the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
