Governor Andy Beshear made what he is calling a ‘major economic development’ announcement on Friday.
The Governor says Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing, a subsidiary of e-Storage, will establish a 6-gigawatt-hour battery cell, module, and packaging manufacturing facility in a one-million-square-foot building on Logistics Drive in Shelbyville.
The self-contained energy storage systems will be packaged into modular, containerized utility-scale batteries.
Beshear says the nearly $712 million project will create 1,572 jobs, representing his administration’s third-largest project for job creation and the fourth-largest investment.
Production at the Shelbyville plant is expected to begin by the end of 2025.
