A Shively man charged with killing his son pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless homicide.
William Qualls, 61, was originally charged with manslaughter after he shot and killed 21-year-old Jordan Qualls at a home in the 2500 block of Ralph Avenue in Shively in June 2023.
William Qualls reportedly told officers he went to get a gun as his son was arguing with two relatives, according to court documents.
When he came back, he said he saw a relative was on the floor.
William Qualls told police that is when he shot his son in the head. Police said William Qualls was standing outside with his hands up when officers got there.
As part of the plea deal, the prosecution recommended a prison sentence of one year. He could have been sentenced to five to 10 years.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December.
