A Louisville man was arrested after police said he led Nelson County deputies on a chase in a stolen car Thursday evening in Nelson County.
Nelson County Sheriff’s deputies said Deshawn Puryear was seen driving the stolen Nissan Maxima on Louisville Road.
Deputies said Puryear took off when officers tried to stop him, leading a chase along Louisville Road, Sullivan Lane and Meadowbrook Lane, where he drove through a resident’s yard, causing damage. He then crashed into a fence at Sullivan Lane and Meadowbrook Lane, according to the arrest report.
He tried to run away on foot but was quickly caught. When officers searched Puryear, they found a baggie with multiple colored pills. Police said Puryear told them the pills were ecstasy.
Officers also found a marijuana pipe in the car. Investigators said Puryear admitted he smoked marijuana earlier in the day and also took two ecstasy pills. He also said he had ingested methamphetamine a couple of days earlier.
Puryear was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being booked into the Nelson County jail.
He now faces a long list of charges, including receiving stolen property, DUI, possession of a controlled substance (hallucinogens), wanton endangerment and several traffic charges.
Puryear appeared in Nelson County court Friday morning, where the judge set his bond at $20,000 cash. He is due back in court November 26.
