The holiday season is here, and authorities are asking the public to be aware of potential scams involving packages.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana says a scammer is posing as a representative of the United States Postal Service and sending a text message of packages being held up because of an “invalid zip code.”
The text message says the package is temporarily detained and will provide a link to click on.
“Don’t fall for it,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said they have verified with the post office that this is a scam, and you should delete the text.
If you are concerned with the status of a delivery, you should check directly with the company (package tracking apps) or contact the post office about an actual delivery.
