A new report says that over one in 10 people have no confidence in recent high school graduates.
The Prichard Committee polled more than 600 businesses across over 20 industries in Kentucky.
In the results, 44% said they have moderate confidence in recent high school graduates, but only 12% had strong confidence, with 14% saying they have none.
The issue was broken down into seven areas, including critical thinking and academic skills. Professionalism and work ethic were the lowest scoring categories, with just 25% of people saying they believe recent grads are moderately or highly prepared in that area. Meanwhile, nearly three in 10 said they were not prepared at all.
That said, the poll found that more than half of employers want to collaborate with Kentucky schools.
Some school districts have some existing partnerships, including pages on internships, mentoring and job shadowing on their work-based learning portals.
