The Kentucky State Police is investigating an Owensboro Police Department officer-involved shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
According to a news release by Owensboro Police Department, officers responded to the 500 block of Orchard Street to a 911 call with children and a woman crying for help.
Officials say they came in contact with an adult male armed with a knife and was threatening officers and others in the house.
Officials say two officers shot their weapons at the armed male, and later provided medical care while an ambulance was on the way.
Authorities say the man was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for his injuries and is in stable but critical condition.
Troopers say the audio from the 911 call led them to believe it started as a domestic disturbance.
State Police will be taking over the investigation into the officers’ use of force while Owensboro Police Department officers continue the investigation into the original call.
