
Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call just before 9 a.m. Tuesday about a two-vehicle collision on KY-30 West.
Troopers and medical personnel went to the Canoe community of Breathitt County, per the release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 27-year-old Jordan Gross of Canoe was traveling westbound on KY-30 West when he lost control of his vehicle due to hitting black ice.
His vehicle traveled over the center line, striking an eastbound vehicle head-on. Gross was pronounced deceased on scene by the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office.
According to the release, the operator of the second vehicle was airlifted to the University of Kentucky hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
No seat belts were in use at the time of the collision and toxicology reports are pending.
This incident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
