The Bowling Green Police Department says they have made an arrest in connection with the rape of a 10-year-old girl.
On December 28, officers responded to a report of an assault at a local hospital, according to an arrest citation.
Following an initial investigation, detectives say they gathered sufficient information to identify and locate 22 year-old Elia Byiringiro of Bowling Green, who was subsequently taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that Byiringiro, who authorities say was a family friend, had offered to take her to a store to purchase groceries on December 27. While in the parking lot of the store, Byiringiro allegedly forcefully raped the victim. He later told authorities the “devil made him do it,” according to the citation.
Byiringiro has been charged with first-degree rape, victim under 12 years of age, first-degree sodomy, victim under 12 years of age and tampering with physical evidence.
He is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $100,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 3, 2025.
