
On January 4 at 6:30 p.m., Owensboro Police responded to a report of a physical disturbance in the 3800 block of Brentwood Drive.
Upon arrival, an officer attempted to detain 20-year-old Vicente Santos of Owensboro who resisted and fled on foot.
During the pursuit, Santos turned and deliberately tackled the officer to the ground, per the release. He then attempted to take the officer’s service weapon.
More officers arrived and helped take him into custody. During the encounter, Santos had dropped a bag that contained a loaded extended gun magazine. An investigation revealed the magazine was linked to a firearm.
Santos was arrested and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center under a $50,000 cash bond. He was charged with disarming a peace officer, fourth-degree assault dating violence (no visible injury), third-degree fleeing or evading, resisting arrest, third-degree assault (police officer) and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
