Where most would see an empty field in southern Louisville, Poe Companies President Hank Hillebrand sees the future of the city.
His company is partnering with PowerHouse Data Centers to develop 150 acres along Camp Ground Road into the first Hyperscale Data Center campus in the Commonwealth.
The project will provide cloud storage, artificial intelligence computing, and other digital infrastructure, likely from a major tech company like Meta or Microsoft.
The site is expected to create roughly 200 operational jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue each year.
Construction of the campus will also create hundreds of construction jobs. Construction is expected to begin later in 2025, with completion sometime in the fall of 2026.
Data centers across the globe connect billions of people with numerous services like Facebook.
A little less than a year ago, Meta announced it would be bringing a similar, $800 million data center to Jeffersonville, Indiana. That facility is also expected to be complete next year.
Hillebrand says while it is unclear which company will utilize the space just yet, what is certain is the difference it will make for the city.
Hillebrand said this campus is going to create real career paths for people in Louisville in the tech industry.
LG&E and Louisville Water will also have hands in the project, providing electric and cooling for the site.
