On January 19, the Owensboro Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the 2100 block of Churchill Court.
When officers arrived an adult male was located in a parking lot with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The male was identified as 41-year-old Joshua Karriem of Owensboro. According to the release, AMR provided medical treatment and transported him to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
The preliminary investigation determined that Karriem was inside a nearby apartment, where he began a verbal argument with the resident. The person’s daughter and grandchildren were also inside.
According to the resident and witnesses, Karriem was told to leave the apartment and refused. He then became physical and began to assault the resident, including choking her.
This is when the resident’s adult child came to her aid and Karriem began to assault this female as well. He choked the resident’s daughter before she was able to escape.
The resident then retrieved a firearm and shot Karriem who continued to assault her while still inside the apartment refusing to leave.
He has since been discharged from medical care and was transported to Daviess County Detention Center where he is being held under a $50,000 cash bond.
He is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree strangulation (domestic violence related), first-degree strangulation (non-domestic violence), fourth-degree assault (minor injury) and fourth-degree assault (dating violence; minor injury).
He is scheduled to appear in court on January 22.
