On January 21 at 7:30 a.m., the Owensboro Fire Department responded to a fire in the 1300 block of Locust Street.
When they arrived, firefighters located a resident who required medical attention for a head injury and a small fire inside the residence.
According to the release, the victim was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by AMR for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire department determined the cause of the fire was suspicious and contacted Owensboro Police for further investigation.
After conducting interviews and collecting evidence from the home, patrol officers developed a suspect in the case.
Officers couldn’t locate the suspect and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to continue the investigation, per the release.
The investigation revealed that 57-year-old Jeffrey Boarman of Owensboro assaulted the victim and intentionally started a fire inside the home.
On January 22 Boarman was taken into custody on an unrelated arrest warrant and transported to Owensboro Police Department for questioning.
Following the interview with detectives about the fire, he was charged with first-degree arson and second-degree assault.
He is being held in the Daviess County Detention Center under a $100,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 27.
