Steven Sheangshang, the man accused of shooting and killing a Scott County Sheriff’s deputy in May 2023, pleaded guilty on Wednesday and learned his sentence.
Deputy Caleb Conley was gunned down during a traffic stop along I-75.
After shooting Conley, Sheangshang drove into a neighborhood near the interstate, right off Paris Pike, and forced his way into a home. He pointed a gun at the homeowner, got the keys to that person’s van, and drove to Lexington. Then, at Rose and Jim’s, a bar on Georgetown Road, Sheangshang shot David Dileonardo and took his car.
Sheangshang faced several charges in connection with the violent crime spree.
At a change of plea hearing Wednesday afternoon, Sheangshang pleaded guilty to murder of a police officer, assault, robbery and burglary. Some of the lesser charges against him were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Sheangshang waived his right to a separate sentencing and was sentenced by the judge to life without parole.
He was also ordered to pay more than $50,000 worth of medical bills for David Dileonardo, who has had four surgeries and spent four months in the hospital.
