A Shepherdsville man was sentenced Wednesday for causing a fiery car crash in 2022 that left his girlfriend dead.
Investigators charged William McCorkle with murder, assault, failure to maintain insurance and operating a vehicle under the influence.
During sentencing, it was revealed that McCorkle and the woman who died in the crash were dating.
The crash happened on Preston Highway and Cooper Chapel Road in January 2022. McCorkle’s girlfriend, Sherly Lynn Hollenkamp was killed in the crash and others were injured.
Police ultimately found McCorkle responsible for the crash.
During sentencing, Judge Jessica Green pointed to McCorkle’s history of DUI charges, pointing to two charges for alcohol intoxication in 2006 and DUIs in 2006, 2007 and 2013.
Green sentenced McCorkle to five years probation, saying his real punishment was a lifetime of guilt.
