A former Louisville attorney has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally defrauding several estates and their beneficiaries.
According to court documents, 59 year-old James Carol Worthington was sentenced to three years and five months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release on a wire fraud charge.
Worthington used his role as a lawyer and trustee to defraud several estates and their beneficiaries of more than $585,000 between October 2019 and October 2020 “for his own personal use.”
Court documents show Worthington made “unauthorized withdrawals from the six trusts and estates,” that included writing a check to withdraw $5,000 from one victim’s trust in February 2020.
Along with his prison sentence, Worthington has also been ordered to pay restitution to six victims.
There is no parole in the federal system.
