An employee at a local athletics company and her husband have been charged for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the company over nearly two years.
According to new arrest documents, Amanda Brooke West and her husband Joseph Aaron Phelps were arrested late Friday. West is charged with theft and fraud and Phelps is charged with theft of over $10,000.
The arrest documents say West was employed by Athletx Sports Group in Jeffersontown between December 14, 2022 and October 1, 2024, the same time the crimes allegedly occurred. Athletx Sports Group is a company known for putting on youth sports tournaments across the country.
West was allegedly given three company credit cards by Athletx to use to book rental cars and hotels for sports teams. The arrest documents say she was also allowed to travel with teams occasionally.
However, the documents also show West allegedly used the cards for personal expenses including vacations, rental vehicles, groceries, Target purchases, Amazon purchases, gas, utility bills, attorney fees, Uber Eats, and more.
Police tied her husband to the alleged crimes because they say Phelps would often pick up the rental vehicles purchased with Athletx credit cards. Police say Phelps was a contract employee for Athletx, but was not employed full-time.
Both Phelps and West were lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. They are scheduled to be arraigned on March 7.
