A moped driver was killed and another driver arrested Sunday after a two-vehicle crash in Taylor County.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia, the crash happened around 4:13 p.m. near the intersection of Meader Street and Handley Avenue.
A preliminary investigation found that 78 year-old Howard Poling, of Campbellsville, was driving east on Handley Avenue in a 2003 Ford Expedition when he attempted to cross Meader Street.
Police say he failed to see a moped in his path, leading to the crash.
The moped’s rider, 55 year-old Johnny Dickens, of Campbellsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Poling was not injured.
Poling was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI (first offense, aggravated circumstance), possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and other traffic offenses.
He remains in custody at the Taylor County jail.
Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.
