On March 12, a Hopkinsville Police officer saw a motorcycle passing a vehicle on the right side of the shoulder on Old Clarksville Pike and Ft. Campbell Blvd.
He initiated a traffic stop in the area of the 7 mile marker on Pennyrile Parkway.
When the officer made contact with the driver, 43-year-old Carlo Jones of Hopkinsville, he became extremely argumentative and advised that he did not need to provide his driver’s license.
Hopkinsville Police said when the officer attempted to detain Jones, he pulled away and pushed the Officer.
Jones then ran towards the officer and bear-hugged him resulting in both Jones and the officer falling over the guardrail down and towards an embankment near water.
Jones mounted the officer and began strangulating the officer to the point of almost losing consciousness.
He was eventually arrested and charged with:
Improper Passing
Attempted Murder of First Responder (Peace Officer)
Resisting Arrest
Menacing
He is being held in the Christian County Detention Center under a $100,000 cash bond.
