
An investigation by the Owensboro Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit led to the arrest of a felon on Wednesday.
Owensboro Police Department Emergency Response Team members and Street Crimes Unit detectives executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of Gardendale Avenue.
An in-depth investigation by Street Crimes Unit led to the identity of 27-year-old William Merriweather as a suspect who was trafficking suspected fentanyl.
During the search, detectives seized suspected fentanyl pills, synthetic marijuana, over $1000 in cash, a 9 MM handgun, and an AR-style rifle.
Back in 2017, Merriweather was convicted of numerous felony charges involving multiple cases in 2017 including:
First-degree robbery
Second-degree robbery
Receiving Stolen Property (firearm)
Promoting Contraband
All of these convictions resulted in a 16-year prison sentence.
On March 26, Merriweather was charged with:
Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st offense (Carfentanyl or Fentanyl) (Enhancement)
Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs, 1st offense (Enhancement)
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
Drug Paraphernalia
He was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center under a $5,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
