
The search for a child reported missing in Frankfort early Friday morning came to a tragic end when the boy was found dead.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 9-year-old Gabriel Andrews, according to a news release. He was a student in the Franklin County Schools district.
The search began after 911 operators got a call around 6:30 a.m. about a young boy caught in floodwaters in the area of Hickory Hills, while he was walking to a school bus stop. Police, fire and EMS crews conducted an an extensive search and recovered his body about half-a-mile from where he was last seen around 8:45 a.m.
Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s report.
Franklin County Schools Superintendent Mark Kopp said counselors will be available for students and their families.
