A Louisville couple has been charged with criminal abuse of a child after a three-year-old boy was hospitalized with serious burn injuries.
According to police, 24 year-old Breanna Lair and 25 year-old Jacob Sneed are facing charges of criminal abuse of a child under 12. Sneed is facing an additional charge of assault. Lair is the mother of the three-year-old and Sneed is her boyfriend.
Police say at some point Sunday, Lair left the child alone with Sneed for about an hour, even though there was already an active criminal investigation by Child Protective Service involving Sneed and the child.
During the time the child was left alone with Sneed, the three-year-old boy was severely burned on his hands and arms.
According to police, Lair waited for three hours to take the child to the hospital, and then lied to medical staff about what caused the boy’s injuries. Lair allegedly admitted to fabricating the details of the story later to police.
Police say during a forensic interview of the child at the ER, the child said “Jacob did this to my hands.”
Sneed was arrested shortly thereafter, and Lair was arrested Monday. Arrest reports did not give any additional information about the status of the child.
Both Sneed and Lair appeared in court Tuesday morning. Sneed’s bond was set at $15,000, with an option for $30,000 in property instead. Lair’s bond was set at $10,000.
Both will appear in court again on April 15.
