
A man was shot and killed by a Louisville Metro Police officer in the Crescent Hill neighborhood after police says he stabbed a different officer in the chest with a knife.
Louisville Metro Police responded to a call of a man they believe to be intoxicated yelling at neighbors and smashing windows in the 3301 block of Arterburn Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw the man was armed with a knife and told him not to grab it. After a struggle that saw one officer deploy a taser to no effect. Louisville Metro Police Department said the man grabbed the knife and stabbed the officer in the chest. LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey said the officer was not injured from the stabbing thanks to his vest.
During the struggle, the other officer shot the man in the head. He was taken to UofL Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Louisville Metro Police Department’s public integrity unit will be handling the investigation. Per Louisville Metro Police Department policy, body camera footage from the incident will be made public within 10 business days and the officers involved in the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave.
