
Another daycare worker was arrested in an ongoing child abuse investigation.
Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Amanda Spears Saturday morning on charges of child abuse under the age of 12 and wanton endangerment.
Richmond Police say the investigation into the child abuse at A Step Ahead Daycare and the Kid’s Club Childcare Center began earlier this month.
Spears is now the sixth employee arrested.
Both daycares have closed as a result of this investigation.
Richmond Police say Elizabeth Thomas was the first employee arrested. Thomas was arrested on April 7th on charges of criminal child abuse. She was arrested again on April 25th, facing a new charge of criminal child abuse.
On April 18th, Jessica Houk and Theodrick Hersey, the owners of the daycares, and Brooklyn Houk, were arrested and charged with child abuse, failure to report abuse and knowingly obstructing an investigation.
According to their arrest citations, they told staffers via text message to lie to state investigators about a child who left the daycare and almost walked onto a major roadway.
Richmond police say Trinity Huff was arrested in Lexington on Friday on charges of criminal abuse of a child under 12 and knowingly obstructing a child abuse investigation.
Some parents said they were threatened with legal action if they spoke out.
Others say they asked to see video footage of their child at the facility, but were told they could not view it.
A Former employee says they were fired for bringing up concerns.
A routine state inspection found some noncompliance issues.
Richmond Police say this investigation is ongoing and more charges may be possible.
