Officials with The Kentucky Department for Medicaid Services have provided an answer as to why some Medicaid renewals were denied for children with a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver.
In a letter to impacted families, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services said issues with a subcontractor were discovered that may have led to some children being incorrectly denied Home and Community-Based Services waiver services during their annual review.
As of May 15, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is reviewing every child’s case that was denied since the start of the year. The agency did not specify what that exact number is.
The department is going to restore waiver services for children who were denied until the new review is completed. Families currently appealing their child’s denial decision will continue to get Medicaid services until the appeals process is complete.
