
All lanes were closed on Interstate 64 East near Mellwood Avenue after several vehicles were involved in crashes due to a car driving the wrong way down the highway Wednesday night.
According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a call of a collision on I-64E near Mellwood Avenue at around 10:15 p.m. on May 21. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a collision involving several vehicles.
Preliminary investigations found that a suspect, 28 year-old Jacob Collett, drove down the wrong way on I-64E and collided with several vehicles. Collett allegedly exited his vehicle and fled on foot, but was found by Louisville Metro Police officers near the scene.
One of the victims, whom Collett crashed into, was taken to UofL Hospital by EMS and is expected to recover from their injuries. All other drivers involved refused treatment.
EMS checked Collett before he was arrested and lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Correctios. He is facing numerous charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid, and wanton endangerment.
