
A man has been arrested after a sexual abuse investigation by the Bowling Green Police Department.
On Tuesday, May 20, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault at the 30 block of Jenkins Drive, according to Bowling Green Police Department. A man had reportedly told officers he had been asleep on a bench when he was touched inappropriately by another man.
Based on the description provided by the victim, an officer recognized the suspect as 51 year-old Lucio Diaz, of Bowling Green. Officers say they located Diaz and discovered he was on house arrest.
A review of Diaz’s ankle monitor data confirmed he was at the pavilion at the time of the incident, according to the Bowling Green Police Department.
According to an arrest citation, in an interview with Bowling Green Police, Diaz denied partaking in any sexual contact with the victim. He reportedly told officers he had touched the victim on the leg to wake him.
Police said video of the incident obtained through city park cameras shows the assault occurring.
Diaz was taken into custody without incident and charged with first-degree sexual abuse.
Records indicate his preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, May 28.
