A Louisville man accused of violating a protection order and shooting another man is being held on a $500,000 bond after pleading not guilty in court Friday.
Melvin Carter, 39, was arrested Thursday on charges of assault and violation of an Emergency Protection Order.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Sgt. Matt Sanders, the shooting happened May 7 in the 2200 block of Cedar Street in the city’s Russell neighborhood.
Court documents said Carter shot at a man, who had an EPO against Carter that was taken out in January. The victim was hit in the arm and the abdomen and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital.
Sanders said the victim is still in the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The victim identified Carter as the shooter, according to court documents.
Carter is scheduled to be back in court June 2.
