A Louisville jury has recommended a 35 year sentence for a man found guilty of killing a woman in 2022.
Jeremy Jamar Thompson was found guilty of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon on May 22, 2025.
Prosecutors said in September of 2022, Thompson shot Kierra Stone-Gonzalez in the back of the head and left her 2-year-old child alone with her body until she was discovered four days later. Before the shooting, Thompson had messaged Stone-Gonzalez over Facebook, saying he would “smoke her and get away with it.” After the shooting, he messaged two different people, also on Facebook, saying he had shot someone the night before.
Police said after Thompson was arrested, he told them he and Stone-Gonzalez had gotten into a fight over infidelity, which led to a struggle over the gun, resulting in her being shot in the front of the head.
Thompson will be formally sentenced on July 2 at 11 a.m.
