A Louisville woman is facing numerous charges after police said she nearly struck a child playing in a yard before crashing into a tree in the Highview neighborhood.
It happened Saturday evening in the 6400 block of Sherlock Way, near Fegenbush Lane in the Highview neighborhood, according to the arrest citation. That is when 42 year-old Tiana Dietz was allegedly driving under the influence when her car left the roadway and hit a utility guide wire and a large tree. Responding officers were advised that power lines were down at the scene, leaving multiple homes without electricity.
Investigators said surveillance video showed Dietz speeding recklessly down residential streets, coming dangerously close to a child who was playing in a front yard. A witness at the scene placed his life in danger as he ran to move the child from the vehicle’s path. The child’s scooter was in the front yard and was damaged by the vehicle running over it.
When officers got to the scene, multiple witnesses told them that Dietz had stated she was sorry and that she had been drinking, also asking if she had killed anyone.
Officers continually smelled alcohol on her breath, and the arrest citation said she said more than once that she was drunk and could feel no pain. EMS tried to tend to Dietz for medical treatment, but she kicked, slapped, scratched, and tried to bite the fire and EMS officials, so she was restrained. A Louisville Metro Police officer’s arm was injured as he helped load Dietz into an ambulance, and he was evaluated by EMS.
Dietz was then taken to University Hospital, where she continued to act out against medical officials. According to the arrest citation, she was aggressive, screaming profanities and threats and kicking and clawing at multiple medical staff. One nurse requested additional assault charges be filed after he said she clawed him with her nails, breaking the skin and causing bleeding.
Officers warned Dietz she would be charged with assault charges if she kept acting how she was, in which she replied that she did not care, according to the arrest citation. Dietz was eventually medically restrained and sedated due to her combativeness and violent aggression.
Dietz is charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of criminal mischief, assaulting a police officer, assaulting a healthcare provider and reckless driving. She is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on May 28.
