A man died after driving his car into a river in Hopkinsville early Sunday morning.
Walter Wilson, 44, was stopped at the West 7th Street and North Drive intersection when a passerby stopped to check on him just before 3 a.m.
When the bystander approached, Wilson reportedly drove off, through a parking lot and into the North Fork Little River.
Wilson’s vehicle reportedly hit a gas line before coming to a stop.
Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash closed North Drive for several hours as emergency personnel worked to get to Wilson and his vehicle because of a large embankment.
