Nolin Lake State Park will remain closed due to extensive flood damage and unsafe conditions, according to Kentucky State Parks.
According to a news release, water hasn’t fully receded in many areas after historic flooding in April. Some portions of the park, including trails, the beach, buildings and the boat ramp are inaccessible. There are hazardous substances and submerged debris in the water as well.
The boat ramp is still underwater and the beach isn’t visible, according to a news release.
Kentucky State Parks said a site visit was conducted by representatives from the Finance and Administration Cabinet, construction teams and Parks Facilities Management June 9. FEMA is scheduled to assess the damage June 30.
According to a news release, Nolin Lake State Park falls under a federal FEMA disaster declaration that applies to the broader county. Because of this, any actions related to assessment, cleanup and repair must comply with FEMA protocols.
Kentucky State Parks said state leaders are developing a timeline for a phased recovery. People are urged to stay off park property.
