A mother is being charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking her 6-year-old daughter with a hammer and leaving her in critical condition.
At around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, Louisville Metro Police responded to a trouble run in the Park Duvalle neighborhood. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 6-year-old girl with several blunt force injuries to her head.
The child was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital and remains in critical condition.
According to an arrest slip, the victim’s mother, 40 year-old Zeinab Abdi, told Louisville Metro Police that she “frequently becomes extremely angry and has difficulty controlling herself.” Abdi also told officers that she became overly angry and struck her daughter in the head with a hammer an unknown amount of times.
The suspect’s son told Louisville Metro Police that while he restrained his mother after the incident, she told him, “let me finish her” while trying to return to the victim.
Abdi is being held in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
