
The Louisville Metro Police Department has arrested a man they say assaulted two people in downtown Louisville this week. Police say the man beat one of the victims with chains.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, on Sunday, June 15, a man was traveling in the area of 4th and York Street in his wheelchair when a man approached him and hit him several times in the back of the head, causing multiple lacerations that required medical treatment. Police said the attacker ran away.
Louisville Metro Police Department also said on Thursday, June 19, officers were called again to the same area after a person said they had been assaulted by a man with a chain. The officers arrested 66-year-old Gabe Payne and, while questioning him, found out he was also responsible for Sunday’s assault.
Payne has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, second-degree fleeing and evading police, and second-degree disorderly conduct. Payne is being held in the Louisville Metro Department of Correction under a $100,000 cash bond. He is set to make his first court appearance on Monday, June 30.
