
The Kentucky State Police Post 03 received a call just before 6 p.m. Sunday (06/22) about a possible injury collision at the 30-mile marker on Interstate 65.
Before Troopers arrived on the scene, Post 03 received another call indicating that 22 year-old Christian Smith, of Flossmoor, Illinois, was involved in the collision and had carjacked a black Subaru Forester and was fleeing the scene.
Smith was later spotted traveling north on US 31-W, where Kentucky State Police troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Smith continued on US 31-W until he was finally stopped on the northbound on-ramp to Interstate-65 in Park City.
He was taken into custody and lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.
Smith faces the following charges:
Speeding (20 MPH over the speed limit)
Reckless Driving
Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (motor vehicle)
Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
Carjacking (attempt)
TBUT (over $10,000 but less than $1,000,000)
Two counts of Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
Resisting Arrest
DUI
Assault, 4th Degree
The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.
