The developer of the proposed Oldham County data center is withdrawing its application days after the Oldham County Fiscal Court voted for a 150-day moratorium on data center development.
The company, Western Hospitality Partners (WHP), said it aimed to work with local stakeholders and held open house meetings to explain the benefits of the data center to the community.
A company spokesperson said in keeping with Western Hospitality Partners’ commitment to the community, the project will be withdrawn and will not proceed.
The controversial data center was originally going to be located at 3557 North Highway 53, but after facing criticism from neighbors, a proposal was put forth to move to the site of the Sauerbeck Family Drive-In.
The spokesperson said while Western Hospitality Partners currently has no plans to develop a data center in Oldham County, it emphasized that Kentucky remains a state full of opportunity and strong interest for future projects.
The facility would have supported digital services like websites, apps, cloud storage, artificial intelligence and streaming platforms.
The moratorium’s stated purpose was to give the fiscal court time to establish data center guidelines.
