A medical intake form from the Leslie County Detention Center reveals new details about the sanity of former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines.
Stines is charged in the shooting death of Letcher County Judge Kevin Mullins last September.
His defense planned to plead insanity in the case and filed a motion to unseal a psychological evaluation.
According to the medical intake form, Stines was “still in an active state of psychosis” days after the shooting happened.
The evaluation also says Stines had no memory of the then-recent events and couldn’t comprehend his charges or his surroundings.
In a new court filing, Stines’ defense also wants the case to remain in Letcher County, arguing the national media coverage means there is nowhere that hasn’t been exposed to the case.
