A man has been arrested after police say a shot was fired through the ceiling of an apartment and into the apartment above.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1900 block of Rockford Lane. When they arrived, they were told by the resident of the apartment that there was one casing fired through her son’s bedroom floor and into the ceiling. Other holes were caused by fragmenting.
She said she had just left her son’s room when she heard a loud bang and went in to find drywall on the floor. Another resident, who was in bed at the time, also heard the bang.
Both people ran to the door and saw a group fleeing, with one holding a long gun. A resident of a neighboring apartment confirmed seeing the group flee in a blue pickup truck.
After clearing the scene, officers were alerted to a Toyota that had picked up children and left the scene and, which led them to the 1900 block of Donald Drive where they found 50 year-old Freddie Aguilar.
Aguilar admitted to firing the gun accidentally while preparing it for sale. He said he didn’t see the car of the residents’ in the apartment above, panicked, and didn’t know what to do.
He was lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and charged with Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Aguilar was in court Monday. His bond was set at $25,000 with house arrest if posted. He will be back in court on Tuesday, September 23.
