A man is in jail after police say he attempted to gouge out the eye of a man trying to break up a fight between him and his girlfriend.
According to the arrest report, Devon Acevedo was in an argument with his girlfriend Ellen Osborne at the corner of Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive when it turned physical. Acevedo had his girlfriend in a headlock when a man and another bystander attempted to break the fight up.
That is when police say Acevedo attacked the man, hitting him in the face and knocking him to the ground. While on the ground, police say Acevedo attempted to gouge out the man’s eyes while Osborne began kicking the man in the head.
Louisville Police were called to the scene and Acevedo fled before they arrived. Osborne remained at the scene and LMPD was able to get Acevedo’s name through investigation. LMPD was able to obtain surveillance video that showed the attack.
The man who was attacked, who police say was a total stranger to both Acevedo and his girlfriend, was taken to UofL Hospital and had to have multiple surgeries performed on his eyes. Police said it is not yet known if there will be permanent damage. He also had abrasions, bruises, and swelling to the face.
Acevedo is charged with first-degree assault and Osborne was arrested and charged with second-degree assault after witnesses told police she kicked the man in the head and the surveillance video confirmed those reports.
