Louisville Metro police have arrested a man who was spotted in the process of stealing wire that supported critical infrastructure.
Brian Kenneth Hampton, 44, of Louisville, was arrested September 18, 2025, and booked into Louisville Metro Corrections.
His arrest citation says Louisville Metro Police officers were called to Eastwood Fisherville Road around 11:50 a.m. after someone saw a white Ford F-150 and a man that was in the process of tampering with or cutting down wires. The witness was able to give police the license plate of the pickup.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with Hampton and detained him for questioning. After being given his Miranda rights and taken to LMPD’s 7th Division headquarters, the citation says Hampton confessed to attempting to remove the wire. He also confessed to taking infrastructure wire on five other occasions. The arrest citation states the value of the wire taken on two occasions was valued at more than $1,000,000.
Hampton is facing the following charges:
One count of Criminal Mischief
Two counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition over $1,000,000 but under $10,000,000
One count of trespass of key infrastructure assets
Four counts of criminal mischief – tampering with key infrastructure assets
Two counts of trespass of key infrastructure assets
Not guilty pleas were entered for Hampton during his arraignment on September 19. The court appointed a public defender to represent him and agreed to a request by prosecutors that his bond be raised to $50,000 cash. If the bond is posted, Hampton will be placed into the home incarceration program.
Hampton is scheduled to be back in court September 29 for a preliminary hearing.
