A man was arrested early Monday in Nelson County after allegedly trying to flee police.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, just before 1 a.m., police tried to pull over a car for speeding and careless driving on New Haven Road near St. Thomas Lane, but the vehicle instead sped away at speeds of 100 miles per hour.
Police said the chase led them through several streets, and the car eventually left the roadway at Tollgate Road, damaging property before stopping behind a house.
The sheriff’s office said after searching the area, they found the alleged driver, 28-year-old Ryan Chesser, and arrested him.
Chesser was lodged in the Nelson County Correctional Center and charged with speeding, careless driving, fleeing police, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, trafficking controlled substances, wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief. Police said he also had an arrest warrant for a parole violation.
