Two men have been arrested after multiple reports of cooking oil thefts from Bowling Green businesses.
On Tuesday, Bowling Green Police responded to Captain D’s on U.S. 31-W Bypass about a reported theft in progress.
According to the citation, a caller, an employee of Darling Ingredients, reported seeing two males steal used cooking oil from recycling containers behind multiple restaurants. After arriving on the scene, police saw 52-year-old Lao Magdiel and 27-year-old Luis Nogales Sanchez, both of Louisville, in the back of the property.
Both men were near a used oil container. When police asked what they were doing, Sanchez said both of them were trying to start a company from “picking oil.”
The caller also informed police that they and other employees had witnessed both men stealing approximately $1,500 worth of oil from seven different businesses. Officers also received a video of both men pumping oil from multiple containers.
Despite both men claiming the video was a lie, it was determined that they did take oil from multiple locations, including:
Hardee’s on Interstate Drive
Puerto Vallarta on River Place Avenue
Huck’s on Morgantown Road
Puerto Vallarta on U.S. 31-W Bypass
Mi Cocina on 14 W. 12th Ave.
Walmart on Morgantown Road
Magdiel and Sanchez were arrested and taken to the Warren County Regional Jail, where they are currently being held.
They were each charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition of all others between $1,000 and $10,000.
