A man was killed near Fern Creek early Sunday morning, according to Louisville police.
Around 2:55 a.m. on October 19, Louisville Metro Police officers were called to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Brentlinger Park Drive. There, they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to UofL Hospital, where he later died.
The Jefferson County Coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old Darryl Burnett Jr.
Hours later, Louisville Metro Police Department announced the arrest of two men in connection to the shooting. Darrel Burnett, 37, has been charged with murder, and 36 year-old Kiaira Paige has been charged with second-degree assault.
A Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson confirmed the victim and the two suspects are brothers.
According to police, Paige admitted to getting into a physical altercation with the victim and then shooting him in the leg. Police said surveillance video from the scene corroborates the account and also shows Darrel Burnett leaving a residence with a rifle and shooting Darryl Burnett Jr. in the head.
According to court documents, Darrel Burnett admitted to firing his rifle.
LMPD’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate.
