
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 700 block of Star Mills Road on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Deputies were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:29 p.m. after receiving a report of a robbery and stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim, who reported being robbed by an individual known to him. The victim stated that the suspect was armed with a handgun and that his vehicle, containing a firearm, was stolen during the incident.
A “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) was quickly issued. The stolen vehicle was later detected by a Flock camera in Elizabethtown. A short time later, Elizabethtown Police Department officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit southbound on I-65. The vehicle crashed just north of the Sonora exit, and the suspect fled on foot.
Elizabethtown Police officers apprehended the suspect shortly afterward. The suspect, identified as 47 year-old Charles Austin of Louisville, was charged by the Elizabethtown Police Department with Receiving Stolen Property (firearm), multiple drug-related offenses, several traffic violations, and an outstanding warrant. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has additionally charged him with Robbery, 1st Degree, and Theft by Unlawful Taking (Auto).
Austin is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center without bond and scheduled to appear in cour on October 27.
